Volunteers needed for Water Catchment Project

KULA — Volunteers are welcome to help and learn how to build a water-catchment system Monday, Aug. 26, in drought-plagued Upcountry. Participants will convene 9 a.m. at 10 Olakino Place, Keokea Hawaiian homestead, to install a 15,000-gallon catchment.

Work will continue 9 a.m. Tuesday. Helpers and observers can come anytime through dusk both days.

The nonprofit Pa‘upena Community Development Inc. leads the initiative via a Maui Department of Agriculture grant to install water catchments at seven Keokea and Kahikinui farms.
